Woodmill Salmon Pool Fisheries
Welcome to the Woodmill Salmon Pool homepage. The historic Woodmill Pool marks the head of the tidal Itchen and is the
first holding pool on the river. The pool was created around the year 1,000AD by monks who would net the river for
salmon to provide food for the monastaries of the Bishop of Winchester. Nowadays the Pool offers excellent rod fishing.

Rod Licence
We work very closely with the environment agencies enforcement team to ensure the protection of our fish stock and allow
the continuation of fishing at Woodmill. Therefore I would like to draw your attention to the legal requirement to
obtain a rod license.
"Any angler aged 12 years or over, fishing for salmon, trout, freshwater fish or eels in England must have an
Environment Agency rod license."
Rod licences cost £7.75 per day (24 hours) or £70.00 per season. Certain concessions and variations are available and
if you are fishing with 3 or 4 rods a second license is required. Rod licenses are available at Post Office's,
online by going to www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/recreation/fishing or over the telephone on
0844 800 5386.
