Woodmill Salmon Pool Fisheries

Welcome to the Woodmill Salmon Pool homepage. The historic Woodmill Pool marks the head of the tidal Itchen and is the first holding pool on the river. The pool was created around the year 1,000AD by monks who would net the river for salmon to provide food for the monastaries of the Bishop of Winchester. Nowadays the Pool offers excellent rod fishing, in the day for salmon and at night for sea trout. The pool is available on a day ticket basis for up to 3 rods. The Salmon Pool opens for salmon and sea trout fishing in . We are now taking bookings for the 2007 season.

Salmon Fishing (8.30am - 6.30pm)
The salmon pool is available throughout the season for salmon, sea trout and bass fishing at (contact centre for up to date prices) per day for up to three rods. In order to protect Itchen Salmon and in common with other fisheries on the Itchen all salmon fishing is now subject to catch and release.

Night Sea Trout Fishing (9.00pm - 8.30am)
The salmon pool is available at night for sea trout fishing from June to October at (contact centre for up to date prices) per night. These prices are for the whole pool for a maximum of three rods. For safety reasons there must always be a minimum of two people.
